Lauri Soini has a creative and musical background. Although at the same time when his mother wanted him to take violin lessons, he was more interested in computers. Meanwhile he also managed to study in an art school.

"When dad was listening his Stevie Wonder records, I bet he didn't expect to see me playing the very same vinyl years after in a club to young people."

The real passion for electronic music hit Lauri in the year 1990 when he heard house mixes for the first time.

"Those new sounds took me quickly into different electronic styles from deep to more intense stuff. Thanks to Gilles Peterson's 'A Thing Called Jazz' radio program back then I became also familiar with all kinds of fresh music influenced strongly by jazz and soul."

Somewhere in the mid-nineties Lauri started to produce his own material and also began Djing more seriously. At that time his selection included mainly techno, but also deep house records.

"Chain Reaction and Maurizio -style techno had a great impact on me then and they still inspire me a lot."

Since then Lauri has been playing records at various events all around. Apart from DJing you could find his DJ-sets and tracks being played by national radio stations. Recently Lauri did come up with a few very appreciated solo live performances.

Lauri's musical style as a DJ can be shortly described as deep dance music with influences from everything. He did gain some respect with house mixes before, but shortly after 2002 he moved more into jazz and bossa material that turned out to be very refreshing change for dance floors.

"Besides my eclectic musical style, places where I like to perform vary from cozy lounge rooms and clubs to trashy bars and sometimes quite heavy underground events and outdoor festivals."

Currently Laserdans is one of the regular club nights Lauri aka 80's Cop is hosting in Helsinki.

Let's start back in 1976 when french guys had never heard about house, and Cerrone was their leader. The same bloody Cerrone that on his album covers looked like he had had a plate of coke for breakfeast and half of it got stuck on his moustache. About 25 plus some years later, Seven 30 picked up some french disco, added scratches of Flavor Flav vocals and made some real dope shit.

Seven 30, by the way, are the legendary Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz from the Bronx. Put your sawed-off shotguns in the air!

The weekend is here and I feel like disco dancing (demonstrated in Finnish in the video above). The soundtrack has got to be the twelve inch version of Street Player which is great for looping on turntables and one of the best disco tracks ever. Just ask Kenny Dope.

German Fancy (born Manfred Alois Perilano, July 7, 1946) was an instant hit when the single "Slice me nice" shot on top of the charts in 1984.

"He could not have hoped for a better beginning to a long and colourful career of international success."

Fancy has also recorded many hits for other artists using a variety of other names. Mostly frequently in the name of Tess or Ric Tess he has written music for Grant Miller, Linda Jo Rizzo, Marc Buchner, the Hurricanes, Mozzart, Timerider amongst many others. The famous producer and singer Bobby Orlando produced Fancy's songs. Bobby Orlando also produced songs for Pet Shop Boys, Divine (actor), Grant Miller, Claudja Barry, and many others.

Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger

In the wake of Kanye's Stronger hype and my 5-day weekend I'm back at the office. Thanks to everybody who showed up at the Ihana brunch at Wave terrace yesterday plus a special shoutout to my partner in crime DJ Anonymous. I still can't quite describe the positive vibe on the sunny top floor terrace but that definitely reminded my of why I started deejaying about 10 years ago.
